History/Social Studies
The History and Social Studies program at August London High School is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of human societies, past and present. Our curriculum aims to help students draw connections between various disciplines within social studies, from economics to world history. While these subjects may seem disparate, our approach emphasizes their interconnectedness and relevance to understanding our complex world.
Our course offerings cover a wide range of historical periods and social science disciplines. We offer a foundational World History course that provides students with a broad overview of global developments from ancient civilizations to the modern era. Our United States History course delves deep into the nation's past, examining key events, figures, and social movements that have shaped American society.
For students interested in government and politics, we offer a Comparative Government course that explores different political systems around the world. Our Economics class introduces students to both microeconomic and macroeconomic principles, helping them understand the fundamentals of financial systems and decision-making.
We also offer specialized courses that allow students to explore specific areas of interest. These may include courses on Modern World Conflicts, which examines global tensions and resolutions in recent history, or Social Psychology, which explores the intersection of individual behavior and social contexts.
Throughout our History and Social Studies program, we emphasize critical thinking, analytical writing, and the interpretation of primary and secondary sources. Our goal is to equip students with the skills to understand and engage with the complex social and historical issues they will encounter as global citizens.
