Science

The Science curriculum at August London High School is designed with a strong emphasis on interdisciplinary learning across all our course offerings. We have three primary objectives in our science education approach. 

First, we aim to provide scientific knowledge that challenges and engages our students, pushing them to think critically and expand their understanding of the natural world. Our courses cover a wide range of scientific disciplines, ensuring students gain a comprehensive scientific foundation.

Second, we strive to help students grasp the order and coherence of scientific inquiry. This involves teaching the scientific method, emphasizing the importance of observation, hypothesis formation, experimentation, and analysis in scientific discovery.

Third, and perhaps most importantly, we teach students that scientific facts have lasting value when they are used to enhance our understanding of the world and our role within it. We encourage students to see the broader implications of scientific knowledge and its potential to address real-world challenges.

Our course offerings include foundational classes in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. These courses provide students with a solid grounding in the core scientific disciplines. For students interested in applied sciences, we offer courses such as Environmental Science, which explores the interactions between human activities and natural systems.

We also emphasize hands-on learning through laboratory work and practical projects. This approach allows students to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world situations, fostering a deeper understanding of scientific concepts.

For students seeking additional challenges, we offer Advanced Placement courses in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. These courses provide college-level content and prepare students for the corresponding AP exams.

Through our science curriculum, we aim to cultivate scientific literacy, critical thinking skills, and a lifelong curiosity about the natural world.
